- visit from Singaopore’s Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
Singapore’s Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) has come to Chubean Village for an exchange programme and to help out with some community service — they helped to make signboards for the ten scenic places in Chubean and translated the Chinese version to English. They helped to establish an English blog for them
25 students and 2 teachers from Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) came to Taiwan for a learning experience, and they volunteered to help in Chubean community service programme.
The president of the Beautiful Taiwan Foundation has been in Chubean Village to manage community building and has handled many such similar youth volunteer activities; to allow them to learn and experience the life of the aboriginal tribes. In recent years, they have been planning to open this up to an international level, welcoming volunteers from overseas, and to promote the Chubean village’s culture and eco-tourism internationally. Therefore, collaborating with the Wanfeng Village head, they were willing to host the students and teachers from Anglo-Chinese School (Independent).
In the past two years, Taiwan has been moving towards promoting a ‘study in Taiwan’ program for overseas students. The plan also involved enhancing tourism through visits from international youth students to Chinese universities. A survey conducted among the tribe, shows that majority are for the idea of creating road directions and bilingual signboards. Therefore, the three-day visit of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) students required them to create these signboards and blogs. The Singaporean students were immersed into the tribe’s culture through interaction with the villagers and community service around the village.
