Chubean tribe is located at the Wan-Feng village of the Ren-Ai town in Nan-Tou county, which is at the heart of Taiwan. The village has about 166 families, adding up to 800 people, where 96% of them are from the Bunun tribe. Farming here is largely substantive.

Chubean is situated at the centre of Taiwan, surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes and is inhabited by a small tribe of the Bunun indigenous people. Chubean is the most complete indigenous village that has been found in Taiwan and has 3000 years of history. From Wu-She to Chubean, there are two tribes with four different languages, and this makes up four multicultural tribes. As the tribe’s location is far away in the mountainous area, transportation is inconvenient, and thus the area is still considered less developed. Despite this fact, the villagers are determined to use their traditional techniques like bamboo skill and knitting and thus retain some of their culture.
Although Chubean has still some way to become a well known tourist destination, the waterfalls, forest trails and little creeks etc, makes it very suitable for tourists to take a walk in and experience how the people of the indigenous tribes. Visitors here can learn of the Bunun tribe’s ecological wisdom and the beauty of their culture.
