It is said that the Bunun tribe came to live in Taiwan in around 3000BC. In the 17th century, they lived at the western side of the central mountain range. They then began to migrate. Due to the constant migration of the people, Bunun became the most mobile tribe among the aboriginal tribes. Chubean tribe is located at the upper stream of the Zhuo-Shui River, along with neighboring tribes like Atayal and Zen-Ai. Chubean tribe is located in the northeast part of all the Bunun tribes, and in the center of the Taiwan Island. They have the second largest land territory in Taiwan. The Bunun people mostly live in the mountain area between 1000 – 2000 feet. Of all the tribes, Bunun people are the most adaptable to the mountainous environment. Where they live has the highest altitude in South-east Asia.
