Chubean tribe is located in Ren- Ai Village which is part of Nantou Town. It is a scenic and beautiful site, and is full of the simple and traditional aboriginal culture. Along with Wu-Jie village and Guo-Keng village, the three form the Bunun tribe. It is also Taiwan’s northeast branch of Bunun Tribe.
During the Japanese occupation, the Japanese forced the Chubean tribe to move to the upper stream of the Zhuo-Shui river, calling the place Gantawan.
Bunun call this the place ‘Kokoa’, meaning ‘cane’. The name came about due to existence of cane plantations in the area.
